Cargo weight fits. But does the parcel fit the hold?

A cargo parcel can be within the weight limit and still exceed the usable space. A simple pre-loading routine helps avoid treating tonnage as the only constraint.

Five checks before trusting a cargo-space estimate

  1. Confirm the cargo quantity. Distinguish declared mass, loading tolerance and what will actually be loaded. Use consistent units.
  2. Check the stowage factor. Confirm the units and basis supplied for the cargo. A typical volume estimate is cargo mass multiplied by stowage factor when it is expressed as volume per unit mass. The applicable figure and actual packing behavior must be verified.
  3. Use usable hold volume, not just a headline capacity. Account for relevant unusable spaces, cargo shape, segregation and approved vessel-specific arrangements.
  4. Review other loading constraints. The result must still meet approved stability, structural strength, loading sequence and operational requirements. Space calculations do not establish vessel safety.
  5. Cross-check the final plan. Review the result and input sources against the vessel's approved loading information and onboard procedures before taking operational action.

Working rule: A calculator can help you review entered figures. It cannot replace vessel-approved information, qualified judgment or cargo-specific loading requirements.

Quick questions

Does cargo weight alone tell me if it fits?

No. Compare the mass, cargo volume, relevant stowage factor and usable space, alongside the vessel's approved loading limits.

Does Astramate approve a loading plan?

No. It is a calculation aid. Operational decisions require vessel-approved data, onboard procedures and independent professional checks.
