A five-step document and renewal routine

  1. Check the original. Read the document directly. Verify the correct name, document type, expiry date and any separate renewal or travel requirements.
  2. Save the reference. Organize your record with a clear title. Protect sensitive copies and keep only what you need, in line with applicable requirements.
  3. Enter the expiry date. A stored photo alone does not automatically create a reminder. Enter the accurate date in your chosen organizer.
  4. Set and review reminders. Pick an advance-notice interval that gives enough time for the relevant process. Check that notifications are allowed on your device; do not depend on one alert alone.
  5. Keep a safe backup and a next step. Know how to retrieve your record if a device is lost. Check official issuing-authority rules for replacement, renewal and travel validity.

Planning tip: Review your important dates periodically even when notifications are configured. Requirements vary by country, document type and destination.

Quick questions

Does saving a photo automatically set a reminder?

No. Verify and enter the correct date, configure a supported reminder, and check your device notification settings.

Is a document copy enough for travel or renewal?

Do not assume so. Check the original document and the relevant issuer, airline, border or service-provider requirements.
